Generic Nonprofit Web Based Software Application Finds First Customer

Robbinsville, NJ – April 16, 2001 -- Stephen M. Reuning of New Jersey and Brock Miller of California have secured their first customer for their long term visionary project to develop an Internet based full function Nonprofit Enterprise Management System. “Our goal is to provide a product that offers a single web site to non-profits that includes both the Public and Private functionality within a single web site.” Stated Mr. Miller last Thursday during a teleconference with ACNJ officials who plan to implement a web based legal support center using the partner’s software. 

According to Mr. Miller, president of Brolin Corporation, the product will enable clients to dynamically add and edit the sites content using a data driven process and fully automate the back office administrative tasks of running a non-profit organization. A System Administrator will configure, via an Internet browser, their site with their organization’s logo, their organization’s name, select features to include or exclude, and add other custom content without needing to use an HTML editor. 

It is anticipated that websites built with the software will be divided into a Public portion and a Private Portion. The Public portion will be accessible to the general public whereas the Private portion requires the user to be granted access privileges that are controlled by the Security engine and assigned by an Administrator. The system shall be comprised of a collection of specialized components/engines which will manage documents, events, email broadcasts, campaigns, memberships, discussion groups, finance and accounting, fundraising, contacts, news, online training and certification, product catalogs and online purchasing, public relations, intellectual property, surveys, and more.

The system is to be created in VB6 as an 'IIS Application', which uses MS Web classes. This technology is web browser independent and meets this projects needs for dynamic creation of site content and format. Program code is compiled providing faster performance and protection of the code. HTML templates will be used to define all static content/formatting and insertion points for dynamic content/formatting. The HTML templates replace typical VB forms. Client side scripting will be kept to bare minimum, making this a server centric application. All data validation will be done by compiled code residing on server. 

All data except for document and image files, is to be stored in a database. Database connectivity is managed by Brolin’s GDO. MS Jet Engine (MDB) is to be used as standard database. GDO also provides support for MS SQL Server, which will be used for sites with higher usage and data volume. Initial project is to be tested using MDB.

This product will be targeted to smaller non-profit organizations page.

Stephen M. Reuning is an entrepreneur, whose successes include: founding an Inc.500 ranked company (Diedre Moire Corporation); developing one of the first UNIX based multi-user software applications for the recruiting industry (Placement Power); founding the New Jersey chapter of the Young Entrepreneurs’ Organization; and achieving a US Patent with others pending. For 25 years, the Association for Children of New Jersey has been the voice for children, demanding action for children who have no power to wield, no vote to cast, no campaign contributions to make.

ACNJ’s roots are grounded in protecting abused and abandoned children. The association is part of an evolution that began in 1847, when the Newark Orphan Asylum was established. Over the years, various child-related organizations grew from the orphanage, which cared for orphans, foster children and children in troubled families. ACNJ has published reports that examined barriers to adoption of children in placement through the Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS) and analyzed DYFS efforts to prevent placement. ACNJ examined how schools identify at-risk students and evaluate programs for them.

ACNJ staff work with policymakers on both the state and local level to shape and track state and federal legislation affecting children. We sponsor seminars and conferences to inform policy makers, professionals, service providers, advocates and the public about developing issues affecting children and families.

ACNJ’s community initiatives include programs to train grassroots advocates and community members to be effective voices for children, to coordinate statewide, regional and local networks of citizens to act on behalf of children.

ACNJ operates a Children’s Legal Resource Center to meet the demand for information on the status of the law and children’s rights. ACNJ is funded primarily through foundation grants and donations to support specific projects. ACNJ accepts no government monies for advocacy.
