The PORTALPRODIGY application is installed on servers
operated by PortalProdigy at its facilities, relieving client users of the task
of managing sophisticated computers, networks and communications systems. Upon
establishing a licensing and service agreement, PortalProdigy installs a private
directory on one of its servers dedicated to the client organization’s
PORTALPRODIGY installation. The client
can then administer the system from any computer running Microsoft Internet Explorer
browser connected to the Internet. See Prerequisites section below.
The client organization requires a website address, known as
a URL in computer speak, which directs visitors to the website from their
browsers. Some common URL’s you are likely familiar with are www.yahoo.com, www.msn.com,
www.google.com, and www.PortalProdigy. A Domain Name
Server (DNS) redirects URL requests to the specific servers on the Internet
which serve websites. PortalProdigy
will supply the registrar or domain name service managing the client organization’s
URL with an IP address. The domain name service then redirects URL requests to
the PORTALPRODIGY server located at that IP address. While it may sound
challenging, your support representative at PortalProdigy can handle this for
you.
Your PortalProdigy support representative will supply an
administrator ID and password. Once you have a your site’s administrator ID and
password and your organization’s URL is directed to the appropriate IP address,
you can begin operating your website.
You may request a temporary URL from your PortalProdigy support
representative that will allow you to access your new PORTALPRODIGY site during
the interim period while your permanent URL is being redirected.
